Placement of an Audit Director, Top 10 Firm, South Coast

Overview:

The candidate had been in their current role for just over 15 months. It was their first role in industry having spent 15 years working in accountancy practises. Their intention was to only stay at this role for 2-3 years as it was a well-established business it was not going to offer any longer term challenges or promotion opportunities. The candidate also found the transition from practise to industry harder than they thought and missed the variety of working with a varied client base, businesses and people.

Process:

Adlestrop approached the individual with an interesting opportunity which they were keen to find out more about…

“It sounded an interesting opportunity and I was keen to pursue it. Senior roles that are exactly what you’re looking for don’t come up very often so you have to pursue the opportunities when they do arise.”

However, the candidate did have some initial concerns around the impact of moving on so quickly would have on their CV. Adlestrop provided reassurance and guidance in how best to deal with this.

“Adlestrop reassured me that the impact on my CV of moving on within 2 years would be minimal providing I was able to articulate the reason for the move. I felt I had good reasons for the move and therefore this calmed my concerns in this area.”

It was important that throughout this process Adlestrop remained in regular contact with the candidate. This included face to face meetings to fully understand the candidate’s motivations alongside interview preparation and guidance.

“I spoke with Adlestrop on a regular basis and I felt that they took the time to meet me face to face to understand my experience and motivations so that they could properly represent me to the firm searching and the role I was going for.”

It then came to the stage where the candidate was presented with an offer. Adlestrop helped to negotiate terms as well offering guidance in how to resign.

“I gave Adlestrop the target salary figure I wanted to be offered. The reality is, I would have accepted less, but Adlestrop were able to get my exact figure that I wanted, which was 9% higher than the original offer.

Result:

As a result, the candidate is confident that this next step is the right one for their personal and career ambitions.

“I am really excited about this opportunity and looking forward to starting the new role next month. I was nervous about moving on with only having 21 months on my CV for my current role but it was such a good opportunity that I couldn’t turn down.”

When the candidate was asked if they would use the services of Adlestrop Consulting again, they said:

“Yes I would – the main factor for me when choosing a recruitment firm is the quality of the opportunities on offer and Adlestrop were able to offer me this. The service was also personal and professional and I felt able to pick up the phone and discuss queries at any time.”
