In this article, Sally Tarlton-Weatherall, Family Partner, reflects on the journey that brought her to Redkite, shares insights into her role today, and offers a glimpse into life at a forward-thinking law firm that continues to grow while staying true to its values.

After qualifying in 2004 and spending the early part of my career at a smaller regional firm in the East Midlands, I joined Redkite in 2019 as an Associate Solicitor. My move to Gloucestershire - prompted by my husband’s career - was a chance to reset professionally and personally. Little did I know it would reignite my passion for law and open the door to the kind of career progression I’d once thought out of reach.

Joining Redkite felt different from day one. Having worked in a close-knit firm with limited scope to specialise or progress, Redkite’s support and encouragement to develop a niche in financial remedies in divorce cases was refreshing. I’ve always thrived on working with clients at pivotal moments in their lives, and being given the autonomy to build expertise in this area gave me a renewed sense of purpose.

There’s a genuine openness and collaborative culture here. It doesn’t matter what your title is - everyone is approachable, and we’re all working towards the same goal. The firm’s “open door” policy isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a day-to-day reality. HR’s emphasis on “Bold and Kind Leadership” has created an empowering environment where people are encouraged to take initiative and support one another.

Redkite also walks the walk when it comes to work-life balance. There’s a clear and transparent approach, with open conversations encouraged around expectations and flexibility. It’s a supportive space where suggestions for improvement are welcomed - and even rewarded through Redkite Rewards if they’re implemented.

Since becoming a partner in 2023, I’ve been excited to help shape our team’s growth in the English offices. We’re building an ambitious and dynamic department where talented individuals have the freedom to define their own roles and shape the future. For the right person, it’s a clean sheet of paper with which to do whatever they wish regarding personal development and career progression.

Redkite has shown me that with the right support, a legal career can evolve in the most fulfilling ways—and I’m proud to be part of a firm that helps others do the same.
