Monday Motivation: How to beat those ‘Monday Blues’.

Do you get the feeling of dread every Sunday night with the thought of Monday morning making a speedy appearance all over again? If the answer to this is a yes, then you may have been diagnosed with a mild case of the Monday morning blues. (Tip! – Don’t worry it’s easily treated!)

  •  Find out the reason why you are feeling this way: Could it be that you and your boss are not communicating effectively? Or is it the work itself that you are not enjoying? By pin-pointing the reason, you can then begin to address the ways that you could improve the situation.

 

  • Assess your workload: You may be feeling like your struggling with the workload you have been given. If this is the case, organise a meeting with your boss, explaining your current situation. By confiding in them you can then discuss the ways that this can be resolved. Your boss will also appreciate that you have come to them first to try and solve the problem.

 

  •  Are you not being challenged enough in your workplace? On the other hand, you may be feeling that you are not being given the opportunity to express your skillset to its fullest potential. Again, if this is the case, speak to your boss, share with them some of the ideas that you have and prove to them that you are capable.

 

  • Make a plan of the week ahead: Before you leave the office on Friday, dedicate some time where you can plan your workload for the next week ahead. By doing this it will allow you to feel better prepared instead of worrying about it on the Sunday night.

 

  • Stay positive: Think about what you love most about your job and make a list of things that you are most excited about doing in the week ahead.

 

  •  Make the most of your time outside of work: Maintaining a work –life balance is important, and for some this can be hard. Make sure that you give yourself time to switch off, allowing you to relax with family and friends. By doing this it won’t feel as though you have never left the office, allowing you to have a more focussed week at work.
